Do you need help getting out of a rut? If you feel like life has become predictable, unfulfilling, and boring, maybe it’s time for a fresh start. Deciding to make a change doesn’t mean you have to turn your life upside down, but it is an opportunity to stand back and revise your current way of life.
Whether it’s a lifestyle, location, or career change, there are some simple things you can do right now in getting out of a rut and gain some positive energy back into your life.
Work out What Makes You Happy
Have you ever sat down and ruminated about what makes you happy? Have you ever asked yourself what lifts your spirits and puts a spring in your step? Additionally, what makes your heart sing and your energy levels skyrocket? Some people feel happiest out in nature, while others prefer sports or reading. Maybe you love the arts or helping people. Make a list of what makes you happy and take action so you can focus on bringing more joy into your life. If your job is causing you frustration but you don’t want to quit just yet, try my book Job Crafting: Make Your Job More Fulfilling and Meaningful.
Getting out of a Rut takes Practicing Saying “Yes“
Most people are so busy with the everyday life that they don’t make time to get out of their comfort zone and do something different. When was the last time you tried something new or challenging? Be open to new experiences, start saying yes to yourself, and choose to do things that feel right.
Make a Stop Doing List
Once you start saying yes to the things that feel right, you need to practice saying no. You need a stop doing list! You’re probably well aware of the negative habits you’ve fallen into and the things you do that don’t bring you joy. While there are some things you have no control over, see what energy-draining tasks you can eliminate from your life. Write a list to remind yourself of the things you can choose not to do, and free up time for the things that make your heart soar.
Declutter
Most people have way too much stuff in their lives. Look around you right now and see what’s holding you back. Clutter includes spending hours scrolling through social media, limiting beliefs, and unhelpful lifestyle habits as well as all that junk in the kitchen drawer. As my English grandmother always used to say, “A cluttered room makes a cluttered mind!”
Say No to Fear
The single most empowering thing you can do in getting out of a rut is to walk away from fear. Because fear will stop you from taking risks, big or small. Regardless, fear makes you too afraid to try anything new and holds you back from reaching your potential. Even God told His people “Do not fear, for I am with you” in Isaiah 41:10 of the Old Testament. He also said, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love” (1 John 4:18 in the New Testament).
Getting out of a Rut by asking “What if?”
What if you lived as if you were loved? You ARE by the way! But what if nothing tied you down and you were free to make decisions flowing out of understanding that fact? Finally, I implore you to make a commitment to yourself and take back control of your life by leaping into a fresh start.

We help you start getting out of a rut by connecting you to Your Life Plan, creating your Personal Preferences RoadmapTM, and crafting your Elevator Pitch.
Your job search begins with WHO you are and WHERE you want to go. How would YOU answer: “tell me about yourself?” in a way that’s relevant to the potential employer in front of you?
GET NOTICED.
Job Search Tools upgrade: In this phase, we consider job search tools as Resume writing, LinkedIn profile updates and optimization, cover letters and thank you letters. Firstly, there are no forms, templates or resume-mill here. Secondly, you work directly with us. Thirdly, our resumes are targeted and include your elevator pitch with three of your strongest career highlighted bullets. As a result, your work experience on your resume will be easier to read if it has three to six achievements-based bullets with quantifiable data focused on your accomplishments, rather than 10-12 bullets that read like a job description.
Job Search Strategy upgrade: In this next phase, we examine your current Goals, Habits, and Networking tactics and upgrade them so you’re more strategic, less stressed and productive. Additionally, we help you become a subject matter expert in your field on LinkedIn so recruiters come to YOU rather than having to knock on THEIR door all the time!
GET HIRED!
Job Support Services: Now that your strategy and tools are in place, we advocate on your behalf to decision-makers as your recruiting headhunter.
